Elevate Your Space: Highlighting Special Moments with Custom Artwork

One of my favorite ways to celebrate life’s milestones is by transforming unique mementos into unexpected pieces of art. While a standard family photo is always a classic, why not try something with more layers?

Imagine framing a postcard where every family member has written their favorite memory on the back. Suddenly, you have a beautiful, one-of-a-kind piece that adds history, story, and life to your walls. Or perhaps you found a stunning vintage scarf on your travels? You could frame the fabric itself or use the scarf to wrap a mat around a favorite travel photo. Creating art from memories doesn't just decorate a room; it preserves your personal history.

The Power of the Personal Note

My favorite recent project came from a dear friend—the kind of friend you can talk with for hours on end. She sent me a wonderful card with a handwritten note inside, and I loved the abstract vibe so much I decided to frame it!

Pro Tip: Customize Your Mats

A simple trick for making small pieces feel "gallery-grade" is ordering custom mats. Changing the color or width of a mat can completely transform the look. For this specific card, I chose a bold black mat to make the card pop even more.

If you're looking for custom mats in every shade imaginable, I highly recommend:

A quick technical tip: When ordering, ensure the outside dimensions match your frame exactly, but make the inside dimensions roughly 0.25” to 0.5” smaller than your artwork. This ensures the mat overlaps the art slightly so it stays securely in place and no gaps are showing.

Working with Unique Textures

For items with irregular borders—like vintage fabrics, letters, or textiles—try using a floating frame.

For our "cotton" anniversary, I had a photo transferred onto fabric. Using a floating frame elevated the piece, adding texture and dimension to the room that a standard print just couldn't provide.

Note: If you have highly valuable, delicate, or fragile sentimental pieces, I always recommend consulting a professional framing specialist to ensure they are preserved with acid-free materials.

Let’s Brainstorm!

The best art is the kind that tells your story. What’s a special moment or item you’ve been wanting to commemorate? Send me an email to chat further!
